A Low-Cost, Equitable Artificial Pancreas System

Personalised closed loop control of blood glucose levels

We’re a team from the University of Canterbury changing diabetes management

Our mission is to provide equitable access to the best diabetes technology and care.

We are working with health providers and communities to get the best possible devices into the hands that need them.

  • unlocked lock and key open devices

    Open Devices

Open devices offers opportunity for patient data ownership and cloud connectivity, while reducing costs.

  • Phone use for device interface

    Intuitive Use

Our devices are simple to use, with the opportunity to control through your phone.

  • Personalised care digital twin

    Personalised Care

Get access to our personalised models, with over 15 years of experience as the only clinical glycaemic digital twin in the world.

  • Maori codesign whare

    Kaupapa Māori

This project is developed by Māori, with Māori, to improve outcomes for Māori and other disadvantaged groups.

One small driver for big change

Our open-licence pumps were developed at the University of Canterbury in partnership with local diabetes clinicians. The pumps are estimated to have a 10x lower than devices currently available, while maintaining comparable performance.

Non-invasive glucose monitor infrared sensor

Novel, non-invasive, light based continuous glucose monitor

Continuous glucose monitoring is painful, cumbersome and expensive, costing 5% of the median yearly income for New Zealanders. Imagine the freedom of a bloodless blood test, reducing physical and financial pain. Our team has been working on a world first light-based CGM using discrete spectroscopy.

Coming full circle: Closing the loop

The most important part of closed-loop control is to predict the future. For diabetes, this is done through predictive modelling. Our algorithms for closed-loop control has 15+ years of clinical use worldwide, and we’re bringing it out of the hospital and into your pocket.

We’re providing personalised healthcare using our digital twins to improve your health, and reduce ongoing costs.

Designed with people, for people

Trust and acceptance are at the forefront of our design intentions. Our team will be working closely with patients and health providers to better understand what stands in the way of technology uptake.

We seek to develop a solution that can seamlessly integrate into existing lives, practices, and communities to achieve our goal of equal access to life-enhancing medical technology for New Zealanders.
